This is the mast raising tripod that came with the boat. Oggie said he and his dad had built it back in the 40's for use on another boat. Yes, that is a 4 part wooden block! The block is attached to the mast about 5 feet above the hinge point using a rolling hitch type knot. The whole rig is about 6 feet tall.
 

 
 
This is the foreward side of forward leg. The black line takes the load from the eyebolt (see next photo)  and transfers it to the bow eye attachment.The forward leg is really just a tension member.
