I am setting up this page to share information on Clark Mills' Sun Cat built at Clearwater Bay Marine Ways, Clearwater Florida from 196? to 198?  Later this boat was built by Hutchins Company, the builders of Com-Pac Yachts.

This is hull 50 in a setting much like that where I first saw her at the 2002 Small Boat Gathering in Cedar Key. I was was part of a Sea Pearl 21 fleet and with her shoal draft she went everywhere that we did.

I have always liked open boats, and the Sun Cat's shoal draft, huge cockpit and simple rig always impressed me. She reminds me much of the Sea Pearl, except that she is more comfortable to sit in and has much better initial stability.

I purchased her from her long time owner in December 2007 in celebration of starting my new career as an Sr. Engineer at Tampa Electric Company (thanks Ed, Chip and Bob). I still have my Slipper 17 - Huff N Puff , but I missed being able to sail in really skinny water and be able to beach the boat to explore a barrier island.

Once again in the the company of Sea Pearls

A couple pretty scenes.

Here is a shot of the double tailed mainsheet rig. I wish the cam cleats had fairleads to prevent damage to the gel coat.
